HGA Grades Skybox Cards
SkyBox, a trailblazer in the trading card industry, emerged from the transformation of the Liggett Group Inc. in 1990. Originally involved in collectible football and basketball cards, the company underwent a name change to SkyBox International Inc. in April 1992 and appointed Magic Johnson as its spokesperson in the same year. In a bold move, SkyBox ventured into milk caps, introducing SkyCaps in June 1993. The company went public on NASDAQ after being spun off from Brooke Group, Inc. in 1993.
Marvel Entertainment entered the scene in 1995, acquiring SkyBox for $150 million and merging it with Fleer to create Fleer/SkyBox International. The relocation of the headquarters from Durham, NC, to Mount Laurel, NJ, followed this acquisition. In 1999, Alex Grass and his son, Roger Grass, took over SkyBox.
Renowned for innovation, SkyBox produced licensed non-sports trading cards for Disney, Star Trek, and Marvel Comics. As one of the first card companies on the internet, SkyBox expanded into multimedia, introducing CD-ROM collectibles and games. SkyBox’s legacy is embodied in Skyborg: Into the Vortex, an interactive, multimedia card line, marking a pivotal moment in the company’s technological advancements and creative contributions to the trading card industry.
Graded cards often have a higher resale value and are more sought after by serious collectors to display, invest, and sell. It doesn’t matter if it is for personal collection or you are selling your cards, the first step to upgrading your collection is to get it graded.
